Unfortunately, Hannah did not qualify for her swimming exam A today, but she will very likely be up for the exam in a few weeks time, on February 26. We’re very excited, and look forward to jumping in the big pool without the obligatory water wings!
Sam has also started his new group. He’s now swimming in the shallow pool and learning basic skills such as floating on his back, picking things up from the bottom of the pool etc. It’s great fun! Hopefully some pictures of our two water rats will follow soon!

Almost without wings…
The Donegal Pony Express
This gave us a chuckle.
From the BBC northern Ireland site:
Thieves who unsuccessfully tried to hot-wire a tractor in County Donegal instead stole a pony and made their escape on horseback.
Joe McGlinchey discovered on Monday that one of his Connemara ponies had been taken from his smallholding at Mill Brae outside Stranorlar.
He later discovered an attempt had been made to steal his tractor.
“Thankfully the pony’s OK… it was no good as a getaway vehicle,” said Mr McGlinchey.
The pony, called Snowy, was found in a field outside Ballybofey.
“I went up to investigate and it was my pony alright,” said Mr McGlinchey.
“Later on that evening, someone came into the yard and said they saw the pony being ridden up the road with two fellas on its back.
“We were all in the yard thinking it was very strange, and wondering why the tractor wasn’t stolen.
“We then looked at the tractor and found the tractor was vandalised.
“They had tried to hot-wire it and pulled the whole dash out of it and broke the dash,” he said.
“They then turned to the pony – it was very unusual.
“They didn’t saddle it up, they didn’t even take the cover off it.
“It must have been some set-up,” he said.

Granny’s out of hospital
Good news for Granny. she’s out of hospital and back in her home in antrim.
Granny has an accident
Steve’s granny fell in the bath at her nursing home in Ireland yesterday & she is now in hospital with a broken nose and severe bruising to her face. They’re keeping her in for observation. It is frustrating that we live in the Netherlands & can’t be with her.
Away and home again
Last week flew past! We went from a country house in Donegal to the sea shore at Rathmullen, down to the east coast at Warrenpoint and Newry and then back up to Belfast. Saw loads of people, so great to catch up with all of yous and hug in real-time! We drove around lovely countryside, went on the Big Wheel (photos to follow as soon as the elusive photo camera cable is found), drank lots of coffee, ate lots of sausages and had a great time (we will not speak of the airports, sigh…).
